I always use a smudge of locktite on the threads, I prefer red, then a paper towel piece between the bolt and socket to hold the bolt in.( I use paper towel cause it works well and if it don't come out it ends up disintegrating. Use a deep well socket and a lil 'choad' extension as I like to call them, the one inch extension that is. I start it by hand then run it in with a small electric right angle ratchet then back it off a smudge till I have all the bolts in. Then I make a final torque pass which I myself have never used a torque wrench on my converter bolts, but I have also been doing this awhile.

I can't tell you how many torque converter bolts I've installed like that, but I've never had one come lose. I use a medium depth 15 mm impact wobble socket with a 3/8 drive Snap On air impact. I run the hose up over the frame rail and point the handle up. I don't have to remove the inner fender liner or anything. I just pull the starter and loosen the exhaust from the down pipe.
